Regina
Owner · business, administration, promotion, guide, mechanic
Regina is a lifelong amateur sportswoman. She relocated to Australia in 2013 from Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, with her baby son and her partner, who had accepted a job offer in Perth. In Prague she worked as a stockbroker and private banker in the financial and capital markets. After moving to Perth she dedicated her time to caring for her son, and when the family's initial four-year stay was extended she began looking for work. Finding a job in her original occupation proved nearly impossible in Perth, but by chance she met George with his footbikes and discovered a product that interested her. She joined the business, gradually took over most of the company's activities, and eventually became a shareholder.
Regina's sport number one is beach volleyball; she has a passion for windsurfing, and she loves footbiking. Beach volleyball is a lifelong passion; footbiking started as a casual acquaintance that developed into a serious relationship.
She believes footbiking is an excellent activity for its convenience and versatility. Volleyball needs a net, a court, a ball and three partners; windsurfing needs wind, waves and a lot of equipment. Footbiking can be done alone, anywhere, any time. It is a mode of transport, a source of enjoyment and relaxation, and above all a fitness tool: comprehensive exercise that stretches and strengthens the whole body, complementing one-sided sports or unwinding a long day at a desk.
Regina enjoys every kind of footbike riding: dynamic fitness rides on her own, group leisure trips, or riding in a pair with her son, with plenty of time to chat, fool around and discover new places.
George
Founder · co-owner, guide, mechanic and company rider
At one of the many bike races he attended, George got talking with his fellow racers. One spoke highly of Australia, and Western Australia in particular, for its flat urban landscape, ideal for cycling. With a passion for travel and for getting about under his own power, George decided to relocate to Perth, on the opposite side of the world.
Over time the mountain biker in him began to miss the hills of Europe, and the flat roads grew monotonous. He looked for a new challenge that would suit the place, and found footbikes: an ideal vehicle for Perth.
Besides footbiking, George has worked in overseas cargo transport and abseiled trees and skyscrapers in Perth. He plays the drums, and a tour with an Australian band gave him a lasting interest in Aboriginal culture and music. Following his passion for sport and a healthy lifestyle, he qualified as a personal trainer in Perth and turned his attention to footbikes.
The movement on a footbike is substantially different from a bicycle: it puts no strain on the knees or hips, so it suits people recovering from hip replacements, and mushers in Australia's warm climate value a footbike because a dog can pull it. Footbikes are family-friendly too, with a range of child seats and carts.
George partnered with Kostka to bring footbiking to Perth. After months of negotiation, Kostka Footbikes Western Australia was established, and with his experience in overseas transport the first footbikes were shipped from Europe to Perth.
